We have discovered this great kids playground in Topeka, In. It is about 7 miles from Carriage Inc, in Millersburg. So we are trying to take them down there for an hour or so each day - to wear them out for their afternoon nap - or to get them to go to bed earlier (they are still on pacific time!!!).
We went later tonight so we got to see the local baseball games - amish and english on the same teams by the looks. Funny to see the horse and buggies all lined up, not to mention the constant stream that drove past as we were playing in the park. We got so excited the first time we saw a horse and buggy riding down the road, now we must have seen hundreds - amazing how the novelty wears off quickly. Not to say that we dont look - we do. I will have to figure how to past photos. The buggies have a big Orange reflective sign on the back and flashing red lights on each side - so you can see them at night. They are mainly plain black, and the horses are dark too - so you just wouldnt see them.
Across the road from the playground and baseball (conveniently) is Tiffineys - a restaurant serving Amish style food and pie!! So after the kids had run out of steam we crossed the road and had a peice of pie and madi had a bowl of (cold) ice-cream. She specifically order cold ice- cream. It was very cute.
Lea had "bob and andy" pie and i had chocolate creme pie. We tried shoofly pie the other night - which is made with molasses and nutmeg - i think. Lea didnt like the shoofly at all - i didnt mind it - had an interesting texture and flavor. The bob and andy was like a custard type pie with nutmeg. I don't think we would have that one again - a little to ... unusual.
Lemon meringue days are tuesday and thursday so that will warrant another playground date with a return visit across the road. I'll try one of the amish dishes too.
