Rapid City rocks for Toddlers!

Wow! We have been travelling all around North America for nearly 9 months now - and this city has the best range of activities for our kids (1 and nearly 3) we have found so far.

Starting with the baby goats that sit on the kids laps at Old MacDonalds Farm (and the other animals, cheap pony and "train" rides), to Dinosaur Park at the top of the hill over looking the city (with the most brilliant Orange sunset!), to Storybook Island, Bear Country USA (we have wanted to see bears and did we ever!). Not to mention the places we didnt get to like the Reptile Gardens, and the watiki? waterpark, and all the caves, gold mine tours - the list goes on and on.

And of course for the adult traveller there was the iconic Mt Rushmore, Badlands, 2 hours back down the road into Wyoming was Devils Tower. We visited Wall Drug - and saw an amazing animatronic T-Rex that comes to life every 15minutes. Petrified my kids but I was impressed. So were the kids until it roared. Got some of those magnetic rocks - has provided endless hours amusement for the kids ever since.

We went to Deadwood twice and ate at the 4 Aces Buffet twice. Lunch was better than dinner. Deadwood is where buffalo bill hiccup was from / killed or something. Much old cowboy / sherif stuff. Fun to walk down the mainstreet. Full of casinos, hence the buffets everywhere. 75ft (by the way) isnt as big as you think - at all. Seemed like one of the smaller buffets I have been too.

We missed the Sturgis rally (humungous motor bike rally - 500,000 come each year) by a week or too - but the t-shirts and pins were already on sale and the double harleys and goldwing trikes were out in force. Really interesting to see so many bikes around. And the Toy haulers and trailers that haul them to town.

As we left to go to Denver, Colorado we went via Hot Springs. There is a Mammoth site there were they have uncovered 58 Mammoths so far. Fascinating.
